After an early Vanderbilt goal, the flood gates opened.
The Commodores' Grace Jackson scored first as No. 12 Vanderbilt bashed Auburn at the Auburn Soccer Complex, 3-0 on Thursday evening.
“We just didn’t play good enough tonight,” said Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa. “We had some unlucky calls, we just gave up and didn’t stick in there; I’m not happy with our response.”
Auburn's (11-3-1, 3-4-1 SEC) Sarah Le Beau had four saves on the night and weathered 12 shots from Vanderbilt.
The game saw its fair share of physical play as each team reached double digits for foul’s. Vandy (14-1-1,7-0-1) defender Olivia Simmons received a yellow card for running full speed into Le Beau.
Hoppa said that physical play is what defines a SEC soccer game. There will be contact, and the outcome will be based on who is able to bend the other team to their will, Hoppa added.
The Tigers will be on the road Sunday at Arkansas. The Razorbacks are currently fourth in the SEC. If Auburn can close out with year with a top-6 finish in the conference, they'll earn a first-round bye in the SEC Tournament.
“To beat Arkansas, we’ve gotta be better with our possessions and keep the ball under control," Hoppa said. "From there, it’s all about execution."
