On Friday, Oct. 26, the Auburn University Architecture department put on its 30th annual Pumpkin Carve fundraiser.
Carving began at 9 a.m. and finished at 7 p.m. in order for the judging to take place. Students gathered in the courtyard at Dudley Hall to enjoy carving pumpkins and seasonal foods such as pies and pastries.
“The best part is seeing all the pumpkins people come up with.” said Jake Parks, senior in architecture. “We are with the CADC (College of Architecture, Design and Construction), and as a fundraiser for us, we sell pies so just getting into the fall spirit with Pumpkin Carve.”
Parks is an active member of Auburn’s chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students, which is a student-run organization that takes part in the annual event.
Pumpkins covered three flights of stairs in the courtyard, and from the moment the carving began, the event was lively.
“We unloaded the pumpkins this morning,” said Ambar Ashraf, freshman in pre-architecture. "There are over 500 here.”
Ashraf was excited to get to sit down and carve out her own design. She decided to put in bats because she said it was a nice Halloween touch.
The pumpkins were all lit into jack-o'-lanterns that evening to show off the many designs carved into the pumpkins throughout the day.
“I think it brings a lot of community to architecture students," Ashraf said. "It’s nice to be out here doing something in the spirit of Halloween.”
