Auburn senior forward Horace Spencer represents the Tigers on the 2019 SEC men's basketball community service team, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Spencer, a product of Findlay Prep in Philadelphia, regularly volunteers with the East Alabama Food Bank, sorting food and goods for those in need in the Auburn-Opelika area.

According to the release from the SEC, Spencer has logged numerous hours to visit the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lee County and the Jason Dufner Charitable Foundation, which aims to end child hunger in Alabama.

Spencer also volunteers with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lee County and Homes for our Troops. At the latter, Spencer, head coach Bruce Pearl and the rest of Auburn's team work to build a home for one wounded veteran who is an Auburn resident.

Spencer volunteers annually around the holiday season at the Christian Women's Job Corps Dinner and the Toys for Tots gift drive. He and his teammates also regularly visit children and cancer patients at the East Alabama medical center and the Children's Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham.

Spencer was recognized before Auburn's Senior Day win over Tennessee last Saturday. With son Avery nestled in his arm, Spencer was presented with a commemorative jersey and plaque.

"It's just been a blessing watching Horace grow up into a man," Pearl said prior to Senior Day. "Watching him accept the responsibilities as a father, knowing that at the end of this summer he'll graduate, is on track to graduate, and what that's going to mean for him, his family and Avery, and then to get started on his professional basketball career. I’m proud of the fact that he's going to represent Auburn as an Auburn man."

A four-year contributor in the frontcourt, Spencer ranks third in Auburn history in blocked shots with 156. He moved up the list with a team-high two blocks against then-No. 5 Tennessee on Saturday.

Because it was Senior Day against the Vols, Pearl gave Spencer his 44th career start. This season, Spencer averages 4.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Auburn's season continues Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CST when it takes on the winner of Missouri and Georgia in the second round of the SEC Tournament in Nashville.
