The reign has come to an end for War Eagle VII Nova.

The golden eagle was retired at the Board of Trustees meeting on Friday, and Aurea was named  War Eagle VIII.

Nova was grounded from flying at football games two years ago because of a heart disease.

A ceremony marking the transition will take place at Auburn's next home football game against Samford on Saturday.

Seth Oster, faculty avian veterinarian at Auburn University, said Nova will be mostly restricted to presentations at the raptor center.

Aurea was brought to the raptor center in 2016.
