Auburn fans and football players can expect a brighter future for the next football season.

Jordan-Hare Stadium will be undergoing renovations to its field lighting system within the next year, replacing the metal halide field lighting fixtures with LED fixtures. Dan King, associate vice president for facilities, presented the project at the Board of Trustees meeting on Nov. 22.

The project is estimated to cost between $3.75 and $4.25 million.

“This is a time-sensitive project because the metal halide fixtures are no longer being manufactured and our inventory of bulbs will eventually one day go out,” King said.

King noted that the modern standard for field lighting in sports stadiums is LED. The project will see all halide field lights replaced regardless of their condition, and this process will be completed before the 2020 football season, which begins in August.

The project was approved by the Board of Trustees with all members in favor of seeing it move forward.
