For the third time this season, Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown has won the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week award. This marks his third time winning the award this season and the 11th award Auburn has won all season.
Against Ole Miss, Brown was tied with Daniel Thomas for a team-high seven tackles. Brown also recorded a tackle for loss that quickly got the attention of the crowd. Big Kat Bryant lost his helmet on the previous play and was forced to leave, and once he left the field, Brown raced onto the field from the sideline and happened to end up right in the middle of the play for the tackle.
“When I was running on the field, the DBs did a great job and he just so happened to throw the check down,” Brown said. “I happened to see it coming at me, so I just tried to go make a play on the ball.”
Brown and fellow-roommate Davidson have been locked in a season-long competition to see who can win the award more and with three games left in the season, it’s all tied up.
Following the award, Brown took to twitter saying, “Just want to take the time to make sure you see it’s all equal @marlondavidson7 you will lose.”
Brown and the Tigers have an open week before taking on No.6 Georgia on Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m. CST in Jordan-Hare Stadium. That game will be televised on CBS.
