In front of a cheering crowd of friends and family, Auburn seniors and graduate students bid farewell to their alma mater in their graduation ceremony on Saturday in the Auburn Arena.
Seniors and graduate students in the College of Education, College of Liberal Arts and the College of Engineering attended the 10 a.m. ceremony.
Those in the College of Agriculture, College of Architecture, Design and Construction, College of Business, School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, School of Nursing and College of Sciences and Mathematics graduated in the 2 p.m. ceremony.
Interim University President Jay Gogue said Auburn awarded 1,900 degrees in the fall semester of 2019 at the doctoral, master’s and baccalaureate level.
Micheal O’Neill, actor and Auburn alumnus, was a guest speaker at the ceremony. O’Neill earned his bachelor’s degree in economics as part of Auburn’s class of 1964.
At the 10 a.m. ceremony, his daughter was among the graduates who would soon receive their diplomas.
“Auburn didn’t tell me that I could take my economics degree and go and be an expert in something,” O’Neill said. “What it did tell me was that I could take my tenacity and learn.”
O’Neill said his mentor once told him that he wouldn’t look back and cherish getting somewhere but would instead cherish the road to get there.
“I’m so grateful that this was part of my road,” he said.
