Auburn University announced that there is a gas leak at the intersection of South College Street and East Thach Avenue near the University Chapel.

The AU alert sent by the University advises students to avoid the area. Crews are on-site working to repair the leak.

The leak developed as construction crews were working on the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center.

The gas line was a major delivery line which is why it was classified as a "large gas leak" in the University's message. The line belongs to the gas company Spire, and their crews are working to repair the leak, said Fire Battalion Chief Dow Sport.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
