In a Sunday showdown, Auburn took home a 3-0 shutout win over Missouri thanks to a strong outing by freshman Shelby Lowe.
Lowe pitched her third scoreless game of the season en route to Auburn’s first SEC victory of the year.
Lowe held a powerful Mizzou offense to just five hits, striking out 11 with no walks. The star pitcher emerged victorious in a pitcher’s duel with Missouri’s Jordan Weber. Lowe is now tied with Renee Sease (1997) for the fifth-most punchouts by an Auburn freshman in program history.
In just her second start of the year, Maddison Koepke sparked Auburn in the sixth inning, notching an infield single that contributed to Tyler King’s two-RBI single. Koepke posted the third multi-hit game of her Auburn career behind a season-high two hits.
“In the first game against Jordan Weber and Missouri, we struck out 17 times in a total of nine innings. Today, we struck out just four times, so we put pressure on their defense," said head coach Mickey Dean. "We had two innings where we got ourselves in a little bit of trouble defensively, but we got out of it. We had really good defense. We had excellent at bats and timely hits to put runs on the board.”
The victory was Auburn’s first shutout win in SEC play since a scoreless performance on April 7, 2019, against Tennessee. It was also the first time the Tigers had posted a win in Columbia, Missouri, since March of 2015.
Auburn will return home to Jane B. Moore Field to take on the No. 15 Arkansas Razorbacks. The three-game series begins Thursday, April 1st at 5 p.m. CT.
