Batter Cookie Dough set to join Midtown

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story used the maiden name of Heather Brown instead of her married name. The Plainsman regrets this error.

Sweet-toothed Auburn residents will soon have a new location in the Midtown Auburn housing development this fall. Batter Cookie Dough will be extending its reach from Atlanta into Alabama for the first time by way of Auburn.

Founded by Julie Abes, Batter Cookie Dough holds locations in two Atlanta: Buckhead and Ponce City Market.

Since the company’s start in 2017, it has grown to include a partnership with Heather Brown, owner of Hawaiian ice company Icey Girl & Co. based in Columbus Ga.

After 13 years of building her own business, Brown decided to partner with Abes and make the jump to Auburn. Brown said a feeling of true community attracted the two to open the business's latest location on The Plains.

“It’s such a great little town,” Brown said. “You can’t recreate the vibe of a college town.”

Batter Cookie Dough is the newest to join the growing number of restaurants located in the bodegas at Midtown. Brown said she thought the bodega-style spaces were a “great way to incubate a small business" and “fell in love with Midtown."

Cameron Hill, Midtown resident, said she was excited about her new neighbor — Batter Cookie Dough.

“Cookie dough is one of my favorite treats, so I’m very excited to hear it’s coming near me,” Hill said. “I think it will be a great addition to the Midtown community.”

Batter Cookie Dough boasts dozens of flavors and toppings like cookies and cream, s'mores and peanut butter. The company also features gluten-free and vegan options as well as seasonal offerings like pumpkin and hot cocoa.

Brown also expressed an interest in partnering with other local businesses to create custom flavors specific to its Auburn location. For sweet-toothed customers unable to make it out to midtown, Batter Cookie Dough will be available on both Grubhub and Uber Eats.

Although there is no official opening date, Batter Cookie Dough aims to be serving the Auburn community by this coming fall. In the meantime, the company hopes to hold several pop-ups in various locations around Auburn.

“We just want the Auburn community to really embrace us,” Brown said. “Hopefully, we can incorporate Batter [Cookie Dough] into Auburn and make it something that is unique for the area.”
