Back to school fun: August events in the Auburn-Opelika area

As students return to school this August, the Auburn-Opelika has plenty of events to ring in the new semester. Read on for a list of local events to catch this month.

1. Draper James Destination Rush Pop-Up: Draper James, the lifestyle brand founded by Reese Witherspoon, will be hosting a pop-up event at The Graduate Hotel from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.. The event invites guests to shop Draper James’ rush collection, including apparel, accessories, dorm and sorority essentials. 

2. City Market: Auburn’s City Market will be held every Saturday until Aug. 29 in Town Creek Park from 8 to 11 a.m. City Market partners with the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department and other vendors to encourage citizens to shop local.

3. The Market at Ag Heritage Park: The Market is an open-air farmers market held every Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m., May 21 to Aug. 6, at 580-B South Donahue Drive. Featuring locally grown fruit, vegetables, jams, baked goods, soaps and more, its goal is to connect local farmers with the community.

4. O Grows Farmers Market: Every Tuesday until Aug. 25, O Grows Farmers Market will be at Courthouse Square in Opelika, Alabama, from 3 to 6 p.m. Selling produce, baked goods and arts and crafts from local vendors, O Grows’ mission is to make fresh food more accessible. O Grows also partners with the Hunger Solutions Institute at Auburn University to offer the Double Up Food Bucks program, which serves to double SNAP dollars for the purchase of fruits and vegetables. 

5. Bluey's Big Play: Perfect for fans of the Disney cartoon, Bluey’s Big Play brings characters to the stage using life-size puppets. The event will be held on Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. and is open to all ages. Tickets are available on the Gogue Center’s website

6. Ella Langley: Country music star Ella Langley will be performing in Neville Arena as a part of "The Dandelion Tour" on Aug. 28 and 29 at 7 p.m. She will be joined by artists ERNEST and Gabriella Rose. Tickets are currently sold out. 

7. First 56: During the first 56 days of Auburn University’s fall semester, students are invited to hundreds of events hosted by campus organizations. Some of the events include UPC's Fall Concert, Waffles with Woodard and First 56 Block Party. For a complete list of First 56 events, check the calendar on AU Involve.
