Auburn took down Georgia Thursday night in Athens in straight sets to improve to 12-7 (4-4).
This marks the Tiger's fourth straight win over the Bulldogs and the third straight sweep.
Throughout the season, Rebekah Rath has been responsible for a majority of Auburn’s kills each game, but against Georgia, it was Val Green that came up big. Green tallied 16 kills on a career-high .469 hitting percentage. In her 32 attempts, Green only had one error.
“Tonight, we saw balanced offense, excellent serving and a great team effort on defense," said head coach Brent Crouch. "This team makes steps forward every week. I'm proud of their effort and growth.”
After missing Auburn’s last game against Missouri, sophomore Jackie Barrett returned to the court and accounted for another double-double – her 12th of the season. Barrett had 27 assists and a match-high 17 digs. Senior libero Bella Rosenthall added 14 digs as well.
Rosenthall’s 14 digs improved her career digs number to 1,102 which stands at ninth all-time in Auburn history.
Elif Yavuz made her service line debut and finished the night with three aces. Freshman Fallan Lanham also totaled two aces.
Tatum Shipes had eight blocks, which improved her season tally to 114 blocks. With nine games remaining, Shipes is on pace to surpass the Auburn single-season block record of 119, which was set by Camila Jersonsky in 2012.
Auburn faces Georgia once again on Friday night in Athens. That match begins at 6 p.m. CST and will be streamed on SEC Network-plus.
