Local downtown businesses weigh in on Tipoff at Toomer's event and plans for the future.

Retailers in downtown Auburn welcome the fall season by participating in Tipoff at Toomer's along with other events and sales throughout the rest of October.

Tipoff at Toomer's will be held on Oct. 7 and is a free event open to the public. It is a new Auburn tradition that began in 2019 with a basketball court set in the heart of Auburn.

Appearances will be made by Bruce Pearl, the men’s head basketball coach, and Johnnie Harris, the women’s basketball head coach.

Additionally, local businesses will be participating in this event with their own sales and events. J&M, the bookstore with Auburn gear, will host a book signing with former Auburn student and bachelorette contestant Madison Prewett.

This book signing will showcase her new book, “Made for This Moment: Standing Firm with Strength, Grace, and Courage."

J&M store manager Trey Johnston said downtown Auburn is expecting a big crowd for a “wonderful time” at Tipoff at Toomer's.

Behind the Glass boutique will offer free Frios pops with purchases at the event. Store manager Chloe Floyd mentioned there will be basketball hoops to “shoot your shot” and win discounts and prizes as well.

Other downtown businesses such as Therapy Boutique also plan to partake in this event. Additionally, Fab’rik boutique will have a 20% store-wide sale.

At the end of the week, Oct. 9, Fab'rik will also begin their “Finally Fall Sale." According to the boutique owner, Tanya Fuller, there is one sale every weekend that is different each time. The sales range from 20% off shoes one weekend to 20% off sweaters another weekend.

Later this month, Mountain Hight Outfitters will host a coat drive from Oct. 26 through Nov. 4. This coat drive encourages people to donate a coat and get 20% off a new one.

Additionally, store manager Troy Marable noted they have 20% off Auburn merchandise for this season's home football games.

At Charming Oaks, assistant manager Kendall Alby said their fall stock is beginning to be set out on the floor.

So, throughout the fall season, they will have surprise sales that are typically not advertised until the day of on their Instagram. However, they do anticipate some of these sales will happen on game days.

Meanwhile, J&M will also have more book signing events throughout the football season.

“We are trying to make game day experiences a lot of fun for my employees as well as the customers,” Johnston said.
