Auburn notched a win over Texas A&M to split the series with a final score of 3-2 on Friday. The Tigers now improve to a conference record of 5-8. This match also marks the first time Auburn volleyball has won in College Station in program history.
The Tigers had a great start to the match, winning the first set easily, with a score of 25-15 and battled for the second set with a final score of 25-22 to go up 2-0.
Auburn had a match-high hitting percentage in the first set with a .394 average. However, both teams failed to reach a .100 hitting percentage in the second set, leaving the match to become a battle.
Auburn soon found itself in trouble though, dropping the next two sets to the Aggies and sending the match to a sudden-death fifth set. The Tigers pulled out the win in the fifth set with a final score of 15-12 after trailing much of the set.
Rebekah Rath finished the night with a match-high 19 kills, while Val Green and Liz Reich both tallied 10. Tatum Shipes and Elif Yavuz were big at the net in the middle, combining for seven blocks to help keep the Texas A&M offense in check.
The Tigers will return home to play their next match against the South Carolina Gamecocks. The match will be on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 8 p.m. CST.
