The Opelika Police Department and Lee County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death of a 2-year-old in Opelika Friday morning.
Opelika police received a 911 call about an unresponsive 2-year-old female in Opelika at about 7 a.m. Friday, according to a press release from Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.
Upon arrival at the residence on Cherry Circle, first responders from Opelika Fire and Rescue and East Alabama Medical Center Emergency Medical Services located the child with no signs of life.
The child’s body has been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Harris said.
