Bruce Pearl and Auburn University have agreed to a contract extension that could lock up the coach for the rest of his career.

Athletic director Allen Greene posted a video with Pearl to Twitter Friday night, announcing that they had locked up the coach that turned around the Auburn basketball program.

“War Eagle, Auburn Family,” Greene said in the video. “Tonight’s a great night. I’ve got a big surprise for you: We locked him up.”

Pearl’s name has been floated around for different jobs around the country including Louisville and Maryland, but in the end, it was not a hard decision for Pearl to extend his contract and stay with Auburn.

“Listen, it wasn’t that hard,” Pearl said. “I’m grateful to Allen, I’m grateful to the administration, Dr. Gogue, General Burgess and the folks that worked on this. My family and I are going to stay and be your basketball coach for a long, long time.”

According to Jeff Goodman, Pearl and the Tigers reached an eight-year extension.

During his time on the Plains, Pearl has amassed a 157-93 record during his first eight years on the Plains and is currently 19-1. Over the last five years, his teams have gone 113-37.

Auburn will be back in action on Saturday against Oklahoma in Auburn Arena. The game will air at 1 p.m. CST on ESPN
