The first Auburn Tiger is off the board in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Cornerback Roger McCreary was selected in the second round by the Tennessee Titans with the 35th overall pick.

McCreary, a native of Mobile, Ala., continues Auburn’s tradition of defensive backs getting drafted to the NFL. McCreary’s selection marked the seventh consecutive draft in which an Auburn defensive back was selected.

The six-foot, 190-pound McCreary committed to Auburn as a three-star recruit in the 2018 class and played for four seasons at Auburn, starting in his final two.

In his Auburn career, McCreary recorded 135 tackles and intercepted six passes over the course of 42 games.

During his senior season in 2021, McCreary made 49 tackles and two interceptions, including his first return for a touchdown.

For his 2021 performance, McCreary was awarded the Zeke Smith Award by Auburn, given annually to the Tigers’ best defender.

McCreary earned national recognition last season, being named a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award, given to the nation’s top defensive player. Additionally, McCreary was invited to participate in the annual Senior Bowl game in his hometown of Mobile.

At the time of the pick, McCreary became the only former Auburn player currently on the Titans’ roster.
