Junior RHP Maddie Penta shut down opponents in the NFCA Leadoff Classic last weekend, earning three wins, allowing no runs and striking out 31 batters. Penta’s dominance earned her SEC Pitcher of the Week for the second time in her career. She also won the award in March of the 2022 season.

Penta thrived in her role as the workhorse of the Auburn pitching rotation, starting three games and pitching 15 innings for the Tigers. She allowed just eight hits to 55 batters and held opponents to a .145 batting average. Penta’s efforts landed her on the NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Maryland native is the SEC leader in ERA, innings pitched, strikeouts and wins.

The righty also became the fifth pitcher in program history to record 400 career strikeouts and found herself tied for 10th in the program with 36 career wins.

Fans can catch Penta spinning it in Auburn this weekend as the 4-1 Tigers host Austin Peay, Villanova and Dayton in the Tiger Invitational. The Tigers home opener will be Friday at 3 p.m. CST against the Austin Peay Governors.
