Auburn students anticipate TV shows' new seasons this spring

With spring fast approaching, TV shows are quickly releasing new seasons for their viewers. Auburn students are waiting in anticipation to see what happens next in their favorite tv shows.

“I am super excited about Succession season four,” said Caroline Chesnut, sophomore in English.

Succession follows the Roy family and their experiences running their company, RoyCo. Succession was first released in 2018 and the script writers include Jesse Armstrong, Georgia Pritchett and Lucy Prebble. Succession can be streamed on HBO and is releasing its fourth season on March 26.

“I really like the writing and the acting…It’s shot really fun too. It’s mockumentary style, so you always have to be on. It’s very cool,” Chesnut said.

“Season 2 of invincible is coming out,” said Gerrit Notch, freshman in music composition. “I’m excited because I think they’re going to start bringing in viltrumites for this season.”

Based on the comic book series, Invincible follows Mark, a teen superhero who is being mentored by his father, Nolan Grayson. Nolan is also the world-famous superhero, Omni-man, who is wrapped up in a murder case. The second season is scheduled to be released in 2023 on Prime Video.

“Smiling friends is my most hype one,” said Jimmy Fincher, freshman in marketing.

Smiling Friends was released in January 2022 and became a commercial success. It is an animated show written by Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack. This show follows two friends, Charlie and Pim, working at Smiling Friends Inc. who aim to bring happiness to people’s everyday lives.

Animated TV shows seem to be creating increasingly popular content as the year continues.

“South Park’s new season has been pretty good,” Fincher said.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s animated TV show, South Park, has been running since 1997. It aims to “offend as many people as possible,” according to its creators, and follows the everyday adventures of Colorado fourth graders Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman.

Additional shows releasing through spring are Yellowjackets on HBO, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and Shadow and Bone on Netflix. Spring 2023 is sure to be a great season for new TV content.
