Three days ago, Auburn flipped a 5-star recruit from Georgia. On Saturday, Auburn and Hugh Freeze struck magic on the recruiting trail again — this time flipping 5-star wide receiver Perry Thompson from Alabama.
Thompson, a Foley, Alabama, native, has been committed to the Crimson Tide since June 2022 but had taken multiple visits to Auburn and finally made the flip to the Tigers at Auburn’s annual Big Cat Weekend, a recruiting event where the Tigers host some of the top recruits in the country.
Thompson is rated as the No. 14 player in the country and the fourth-best receiver according to 247Sports. Thompson is also the first 5-star receiver to commit to Auburn since Trovon Reed did so in the 2010 class.
Thompson became the second player to commit to the Tigers Saturday as 4-star athlete Malcolm Simmons out of Alexander City, Alabama, also committed to Auburn. Simmons, like Thompson, is projected to play receiver at the collegiate level.
Thompson becomes the second 5-star to join the Tigers’ 2024 recruiting class, joining linebacker Demarcus Riddick who flipped his commitment from Georgia to Auburn Wednesday.
With the addition of Perry, Auburn’s recruiting ranking for the 2024 class rose to No. 17 according to 247Sports.
