The Auburn Tigers took on the American Eagles Sunday at the Auburn Soccer Complex, finishing the match with a final score of 3-0 and Auburn taking home the win.

Early in the first period, both Auburn and American goalkeepers made a move to defend their respective teams. Auburn’s Maddie Prohaska recorded two saves in the game while American goalkeeper Julia Kato had seven saves.

Auburn struck first thanks to a goal from Olivia Woodson 38 minutes into the game, who put a shot into the bottom left of the goal with her right foot. Sydnie Thibodaux was credited with the assist.

Auburn stretched its lead just six minutes later as Dylan Driver got her name on the scoresheet, marking her first career goal with Auburn. The goal was assisted by Becky Contreras.

American attempted a couple of corner kicks, looking to start a comeback, but couldn't find a goal. With 16 minutes left in the first half, Woodson scored her second goal of the game, putting a shot into the bottom left of the goal to give Auburn a 3-0 lead.

Auburn finished the game with 20 shots, 10 on goal compared to American's three shots with just two on goal, leading Auburn to a comfortable win.

After the game, Woodson went into detail about her performance.

“It was exciting and surprising for me to make my first two goals this season, especially with being so young," Woodson said. "We needed this win for sure, we kept on running getting wide and creating space for ourselves and I feel like I did a decent job today.”

Woodson made head coach Karen Hoppa proud. Hoppa went into further detail after the game.

“It was a hot Sunday, and I felt like American goalkeeper was great so we had to keep up," Hoppa said. "To get two new goal scorers, it was great to see the youngsters get that win today. Some of the keys moving forward is West Virginia, I think we have to be better with our possesion of the ball.”

With the win, Auburn improved its record to 4-1-1 and faces the Mountaineers on Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. CST in Morgantown, West Virginia.
