Auburn softball continues fall ball success with pair of wins

Auburn softball remained undefeated this fall as the Tigers took on AUM and Alabama State Sunday at the Barbra William Softball Complex.

Auburn battled AUM first in the day, ultimately leaving with a 5-1 win. Soon after, the Tigers competed against Alabama State — taking home another victory in a close game of 4-3.

In the game against AUM, an error was followed by a Makayla Packer double to straightaway center to drive in two. Packer ended up scoring the fourth run of the inning. Auburn’s Axe Milanowski got a two-out infield single to bring in the third run of the inning.

Auburn sophmore pitcher Emma Rolfe is to thank for the victory against AUM, as Rolfe only allowed a pair of hits and one walk while striking out four to earn her the win in Auburn's first game.

Rolfe competed fiercely through the four innings after a shaky start, ultimately finding her groove and retiring nine of the next 10 batters after giving up two hits in the first inning.

The Tigers were on a roll coming into the Alabama State game, refusing to let up and trying to earn another win.

Auburn fell into an early deficit after Alabama State scored two runs in the third inning thanks to an error and passed ball from Auburn.

But the Tigers responded in the fourth with three straight singles to load the bases. Rose Roach and Abbey Smith both drew walks to tie the game, and Nelia Peralta gave the Tigers the lead with a sacrifice fly. Auburn added another run in the sixth when Wildra scored on a two-out single from Smith.

Auburn freshman Chalea Clemmons got three strikeouts to close the game after Alabama State added a third run with a sacrifice fly. Wildra was ultimately credited with the victory against Alabama State with six strikeouts, as she picked up her second win of the fall.

Leading the day, Smith was 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs. Wildra scored two runs for the team with a 3-for-6 effort on top of her pitching performance, and Packer also recorded two runs and two RBIs on a 3-for-6 performance.

The Tigers will be back at Jane B. Moore Field on Sunday, Oct. 15 for the third weekend of fall competition. Auburn will host Coastal Alabama and Enterprise in a doubleheader slate. The first pitch is set to begin at 2 p.m. CST.
