In some good news for Auburn following last night's loss, Jaylin Williams' knee injury was not as significant as originally feared and the fifth-year senior is expected to play for the Tigers again this season, it was announced Sunday.
Williams suffered the injury following a dunk attempt with 10:40 to go in Saturday's game. Williams remained down on the baseline before being helped to the locker room, unable to put weight on the right leg. The result of an MRI performed Sunday did not show extensive knee damage as originally feared, and Williams will not need surgery.
Williams is the Tigers' second-leading scorer this season, averaging 13 points per game. He has started all 26 games for the Tigers thus far this season, averaging just over 24 minutes per game – the second-most on the team. Williams leads the Tigers in field-goal percentage, 58.1%, and 3-point percentage, 41.4%, this season.
Though his season is not over, Williams will miss some time with the injury. The Tigers will have an extended time to adjust to the temporary absence of Williams as they are off in the midweek before a trip to Georgia on Saturday.
