No. 25 Auburn (15-8-1) fell to No. 14 Texas A&M (27-4) 3-2 to drop its second straight against the Aggies and lose the weekend series on Saturday. Auburn tried to rally late just like in Friday’s game but was unable as its struggles at the plate continued.

Auburn only managed to get three hits on the day while walking twice and striking out twice. Auburn put plenty of balls into play but was unable to break through the Texas A&M defense for most of the game, hitting 10 groundouts to the infield and nine fly outs as a team.

The game started off strong for the Tigers as Anna Wohlers put Auburn on top early with a home run to center field. Auburn held this lead until the third inning when a double to center field, a wild pitch and a single to second base brought in a Texas A&M runner to tie the game 1-1.

This score held until the fifth when Texas A&M singled into the center field and proceeded to steal second base. Another single to the outfield drove the leading runner home to put the Aggies on top 2-1.

Texas A&M’s final run came in the sixth when Allie Enright hit a home run over the right-field fence to make the game 3-1. Auburn tried to make a rally in the seventh when Amelia Lech hit a home run to left field with two outs to bring Auburn within one run. However, a groundout by Annabelle Widra shut the door for Auburn.

Starting pitcher Maddie Penta was credited with the loss to move her to an 8-5 record on the season. Penta pitched six innings, giving up one five hits, three earned runs and only walking one batter. Penta joined Anna Thompson as the only other Tiger in program history to record 800 career strikeouts with her seven strikeouts in the game.

Auburn will finish out the series against the Aggies on Sunday at 1 p.m. CST on SEC Network+.
