After a week that showcased skill and potential, Grace Havlicek has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, following standout performances that helped Auburn take down No. 12 Kentucky and long-time rival Alabama.
Havlicek, a promising talent from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was nothing short of sensational in the Tigers’ landmark win against the Kentucky Wildcats. With an impressive .667 hitting percentage, she recorded six kills with no errors on nine attempts, displaying her offensive skill.
However, it was her contributions on defense that truly stole the show. Havlicek tallied a career-high 10 blocks, including a solo effort, solidifying her place as a formidable presence at the net. This victory marked Auburn’s first win over Kentucky since 2010, making it a significant event for the program.
Just two days later, Havlicek continued showcasing her talent against Alabama, contributing six more blocks to her season total. Her efforts helped Auburn secure its eighth consecutive win over the Crimson Tide, further cementing her status as a key player for Auburn.
In four matches, Havlicek is averaging 1.75 blocks per set with a .476 hitting percentage. These numbers reflect her rapid adjustment to being a part of a collegiate team. This recognition is the first such honor that Havlicek has received, and fans can look forward to seeing her continue to stand out throughout the season.
Head coach Brent Crouch and the Tigers will be back on the court Friday, Oct. 4 against Georgia. First serve is slated for 6:30 p.m. and admission is free.
