Auburn closed out the fall portion of its 2023-24 season with a strong showing at The Ally, finishing fourth out of 16 teams with a 3-over par score of 867 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
Sophomore Anna Davis secured a tie for third place, marking her fourth consecutive top-three finish in Auburn's fall tournaments. Davis, who carded a 65 on Tuesday, was 3-under before encountering challenges in the final two holes of the last round. She wrapped up the tournament with a 1-over 73 on Wednesday, finishing with a 54-hole total of 210 (-6).
“Anna Davis played 53 great holes with minimal mistakes,” said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. “Making triple on the last hole is a tough pill to swallow, but she will learn from it. Such a solid fall season for her!”
Katie Cranston secured a top-25 finish, ending the tournament at 2-over (218). Cranston opened strong with a 4-under 68 in the first round, continuing with rounds of even-par 72 and 6-over 78. Casey Weidenfeld shot a 3-over 75 in the final round, finishing 6-over (222) for the tournament and tying for 29th place.
Carys Worby started her final round with momentum, eagling the second hole and birdieing the par-3 third. She posted a 2-over 74 to close out the tournament, finishing 8-over and in a tie for 36th individually. Freshman Anne Fernandez, playing as an individual in her collegiate debut, matched Worby's score and tied for 36th on the individual leaderboard.
Balma Daìvalos Guaita recovered from a difficult second round, shooting a 2-over 74 in the final round. She carded four birdies, including three in a row on the back nine, and finished tied for 52nd.
“Rather disappointed in our performance this week,” Luellen said after the tournament. “In the final round we had too many big numbers, which really stung after a great start. The team is upset, which I am happy about because sometimes you have to feel the pain. This will set us up for a productive winter season to get prepped for spring.”
