With the departure of WBCA All-American honorable mention Honesty Scott-Grayson after the 2023-24 season, Auburn women’s basketball head coach Johnnie Harris and the Tigers picked up arguably one of the most sought-after transfers in former Arkansas Razorback guard Taliah Scott.
For an Auburn team whose identity revolves around defense, the pickup of Scott brings a huge offensive upgrade to a team that ranked 12th in the SEC in scoring last season.
“Taliah Scott is one of the most complete players in the game today,” said Harris. “She is an elite player who can score at all three levels and create for herself and her teammates without sacrificing the defensive side of the ball.”
Before beginning her college career, Scott was named the 2023 Gatorade Florida Girls Basketball Player of the Year and a McDonald’s All-American. The former five-star recruit was named the No. 11 player in the 2023 class by ESPN Hoopgurlz Recruit Rankings.
Named to the 2023-24 SEC All-Freshman Team, Scott played in 20 games and started 19. Her 2023-24 season was marked by a back injury for four games to begin SEC play and a family emergency for the last six games of the conference slate.
In her 20 games, Scott led the Razorbacks in scoring and minutes per game with a hefty 22.1 points per game and 36.4 minutes per game. She paced both categories in the SEC until her absences.
Scott shot 30 percent from behind the arc and 41 percent from the field, including a reliable 84 percent mark from behind the charity stripe.
“Her speed, skill, and basketball IQ make her a rare and unique addition to our program,” Harris said.
Prior to being named to the all-freshman team, Scott nabbed five SEC Freshman of the Week honors, with four of them coming in consecutive weeks.
Scott will make her official debut in an Auburn jersey on Thursday, Oct. 31 when the Tigers host an exhibition game against LaGrange. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CST but will not be streamed.
