After a victory on the road over South Carolina last week, the No. 1 Auburn equestrian team rides into their next matchup against No. 4 SMU with momentum.
“We will have to be our best against the Mustangs and the Auburn Family will be a huge difference maker for us," Braswell said.
Coming off a 14-5 victory in their first road test, The Tigers (2-0, 1-0 SEC) look to continue their slate against a competitive Mustang team.
Alexia Tordoff for The Tigers received her first Most Oustanding Performing honor of the year (MOP), prevailing with a 74.25-68.25 score in Horsemanship. She followed behind her classmate, junior Caroline Fredenburg, who led Horsemanship off with a 74-71.5 win.
Triple threat sophomores Brooke Jolstad, Sydney Swallom and Callie Hogg closed the event with three straight wins, marking Hogg’s first career win 70.5-69 over Jordan Humbert for SMU.
The Horsemanship crew put up big numbers throughout their last meet, setting career milestones. This experienced Auburn equestrian team showed head coach Jessica Braswell why they deserve to be in that No. 1 spot.
“Going undefeated in any event is a big task and they rose to the occasion,” Braswell said.
The Tigers may have an advantage over The Mustangs as they are undefeated this season while The Mustangs are (0-2) in meets this season; those losses notably being on the road.
Despite their losses on the road, SMU played the No.1 TCU in a margined matchup (10-10), excelling in Horsemanship and Fences, but falling short in reigning and flat.
Auburn equestrian dominated the events against the Gamecocks with Flat finished 3-1-1 following intermission and Reining closed out the day with two victories from upperclassmen.
The Tigers return to The Auburn University Equestrian Center to host defending national champions No. 4 SMU. The No. 1 Auburn Tigers will compete against the Mustangs on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. CST.
