After leading the top-ranked Tigers with a pair of top three finishes at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational, Brendan Valdes was named the SEC’s men’s golfer of the week alongside Billy Davis receiving the freshman men’s golfer of the week honors, the league office announced Wednesday.
Valdes earned the SEC Golfer of the Week title for the third time in his career – marking his fourth weekly conference honor as he captured Freshman of the Week in March of 2022. However it is Davis’ first career recognition from the league.
Valdes and Davis are the Tigers third and fourth recipients of the conference’s weekly awards this season.
Tuesday at the Hogan, Valdes finished as the individual runner-up thanks to a 6-under, 69-66-69 performance – the highest placed player from the SEC. The Orlando, Florida native set a new Auburn record with his 19th career top-10 outing.
“It was a fun few days in Fort Worth,” Valdes said following his performance on Tuesday. “I’m happy with the way I played and am looking forward to more success. The team is in a great spot, and I know it’s only a matter of time before we all put our games together!”
In the second tournament of his collegiate career, Davis finished just one shot back of Valdes at five-under by way of a 68-67-70 scorecard. He finished tied for third.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 20 at The Williams Cup in Wilmington, NC at the Eagle Point Club.
