Former Stanford starting quarterback Ashton Daniels announced his commitment to Auburn Monday afternoon joining portal addition Jackson Arnold and high school signee Deuce Knight as the Tigers three scholarship quarterbacks.
“This place is special, man. You know what Coach Freeze and the staff is doing,” Daniels said following his visit on Monday afternboon. “The culture that they're implementing from the top down, I think, is probably one of the biggest reasons why I chose coming here. You know, they care, and I can tell that we're really close to winning a lot of games. So I'm hoping that I can come in and be a fit for this offense and help to win games.”
Daniels is set to join the program in the summer following graduation from Stanford this spring. The Buford, GA native is ‘absolutely’ coming to Auburn with the goal of winning the starting job but looks forward to teaming up with Knight and familiar face in Arnold.
“Deuce, obviously, with all his accolades and everything that he's done, he's going to be an excellent quarterback. So for me to be able to say that I had a part of his journey, and sharing with him my experiences helping him grow as a quarterback and as a person,” Daniels said.
“Jackson is a great player. We actually played baseball against each other in Little League. He was in Georgia, so we have that connection. But I'm excited to, you know, reconnect with him and just compete with them and learn from each other and grow with each other.”
Daniels started all 12 games for the Cardinal last season and threw for 1700 yards with a 62.7 completion percentage. Daniels did, however, throw only 10 touchdowns compared to 12 interceptions.
The 6-foot-2, 215 pound quarterback ran for 669 yards during the 2024 season on 148 carries, averaging 4.5 yards-per-attempt with a trio of rushing touchdowns.
“It's going to be a competition. Best man is going to come in and play and I'm ready to compete, I’ve competed my whole life, my whole career,” Daniels said. “So, I'm excited to come in here, be surrounded by a great group of guys and then obviously make each other better.”
Daniels only visited Auburn after announcing his move from Stanford to the portal.
“Fired up to be a part of such a great community. You know, obviously, being from Georgia, watching all Auburn games, and, you know, I've came to a couple games and just seeing the atmosphere and everything that comes with being an Auburn fan and being in this Auburn community. I mean, it's so special,” Daniels said.
