Hugh Freeze and the Tigers flipped three-star defensive lineman Darrion Smith from Tennessee Wednesday morning marking the 14th high school target to officially sign with the program on national signing day.

Smith, coming from St. Frances Academy, had been committed to Tennessee since July 30 and was recruited by former Auburn defensive line coach and ace-recruiter Rodney Garner.

The 6-foot-2, 265 pound lineman was on the fringe of becoming a four star by 247 Sports rated at 89 overall making him the 15th highest rated player from the state of Maryland.

Former Maryland head coach DJ Durkin’s connection with St. Frances high school has helped the Tigers pick up commitments from Smith and teammates Blake Woodby, a four-star cornerback, and Bryce Deas, a four-star linebacker.

Smith is a part of Freeze’s current No. 5 overall class with several signees still expected to come throughout Wednesday morning and afternoon.
