For the second time this season, senior all-American and national player of the year contender Johni Broome was named the SEC Player of the Week the league announced Mondacy afternoon.
Broome led Auburn to three victories in the program’s first Maui Invitational title with wins over No. 5 Iowa State, No. 12 North Carolina and Memphis. The senior averaged 21.6 points per game, shooting an average of 52% percent from the field and averaging 15.0 rebounds along with 3.0 blocks in the three contests.
In three straight days of competition, the senior played 36, 33 and 32 minutes of action.
With double-doubles in all three performances – recording the latter two double-doubles before the half – Broome has cemented himself as an early national player of the year front runner.

“I mean, the player of the year don't really matter to me. You know, I care about winning alone. We keep winning. That's how the eyes are on you,” Broome said.
On Wednesday, Broome became the first Auburn player to record five-straight double-doubles since the late Jeff Moore in 1988. He also moved past Charles Barkley for 28th on Auburn’s career scoring list finishing the game with 1,188 points.
Broome and the No. 2 Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at No. 9 Duke in the SEC/ACC Challenge with tipoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. CST on ESPN.
