Former five-star signee and freshman edge Amaris Williams announced his intentions on entering the transfer portal Monday afternoon before announcing his return to the program on Tuesday evening.
Williams saw action in 10 of the Tigers’ 12 contests during the 2024 season – only missing the matchups against Arkansas and at Georgia. The true freshman edge recorded four solo tackles; one a piece against Oklahoma, at Missouri, Vanderbilt and Louisiana Monroe.
The 6-foot-2, 269 pound edge ended his freshman season with six total tackles and 1.5 tackles-for-loss.
Williams, a member of Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class, was rated 98 overall by 247 Sports and was the second-highest rated signee for the Tigers, trailing just Cam Coleman. Williams was 30th best player nationally in the 2024 class and the fifth best at his position.
As a senior at Clinton High School in Clinton, N.C., 20 of Williams’ 40 tackles were for loss, with 11 sacks, along with 700 yards rushing and 12 rushing touchdowns.
