Tigers still at No. 2 in latest AP poll, trailing just Tennessee

Following an 18-point quad-one victory over at the time No. 16 Purdue in Birmingham, AL this past Saturday, Auburn men’s basketball remains ranked at No. 2 nationally in the AP Poll for the fourth straight week – trailing just No. 1 Tennessee. 



Monday’s ranking 37th time in program history, and 17th under head coach Bruce Pearl, the Tigers are in the AP top-five. It also marks just the eighth time ever Auburn has been ranked No. 2 nationally. 

The Tigers are one of 10 SEC teams ranked this week – with 5 ranked in the Top 10. Auburn is followed by conference members; No. 5 Alabama, No. 6 Florida, No. 10 Kentucky, No. 12 Oklahoma, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 16 Ole Miss, No. 19 Mississippi State and No. 23 Arkansas.

Pearl and his squad already have six quad-one wins in their first 12 games of the season – all which were won away from home. The Tigers’ average margin of victory against its six quad-one opponents is 15.0 points. 

Auburn has wins against three teams in this week’s AP top 25; No. 3 Iowa State, No. 15 Houston and No. 21 Purdue. 

The Tigers also ranked at the top the KenPom metric system with wins over two of the top five rated teams and lead No. 2 Duke by a +3.68 margin.

The No. 2 ranked Tigers will take on Monmouth at 5:30 P.M. CST inside of Neville Arena on Monday, Dec. 30 before the beginning of SEC play.
