Entering the first season with new co-head coaches Chris and Kate Malveaux, Auburn softball was picked to finish 13th in the SEC preseason coaches’ poll along with no players selected in the preseason All-SEC team the league announced Thursday morning.

The Tigers were trailed by just No. 14 Ole Miss and No. 15 South Carolina with Texas leading the way in the preseason poll. Auburn was picked to finish fifth last season but failed to meet the mark with a 10th place finish in Mickey Dean’s final season with the program.

Auburn is set to play four of the preseason top-five teams in the SEC; at No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Florida, at no. 4 Tennessee and No. 5 Texas A&M. The Tigers will also matchup with No. 8 Georgia, at No. 12 Mississippi State and No. 15 South Carolina in league play.

The first season of the Malveaux tenure is set to begin on Friday, Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. CST inside of the friendly confines of Jane B. Moore Field against Southern Illinois in the Opening Weekend on the Plains event.
