For the fifth time of his career and fourth time this season, Auburn All-American and national player of the year candidate Johni Broome was selected as the SEC Player of the Week the league office on Monday.
The 6-foot-10, 240-pound senior center led the top-ranked Tigers to a 53-51 win over No. 6 Tennessee at Neville Arena. He recorded a game-high 16 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks and two steals versus the Volunteers. It marked his 71st career double-double performance.
After missing the team’s last two games in conference play due to injury, Broome came off the bench and played 33 minutes. It was Auburn’s 11-straight win of the season and seventh over a Top 25-ranked opponent.
"It just felt amazing to go out there and compete with my brothers, and just go out there and be back on the court with them," Broome said following the win on Saturday evening. "This week was very rough. Shoutout Clark, the doc. They all kind of put in a lot of effort and used a lot of their time, so I want to give a shoutout to them. Ultimately, I just wanted to get out there and help them win, help them grind it out. It was a rough one but we got it done."

He previously earned weekly honors on Nov. 11, Dec. 2 and Dec. 16.
