The No.1 Auburn Tigers will start a two-game road trip as Auburn will travel to Baton Rouge, La. to take on LSU at The Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Auburn remained the No. 1 team in the country in the most recent AP Poll after receiving all 62 first-place votes following wins over No. 23 Georgia and No. 6 Tennessee.
In Auburn’s most recent contest, a thrilling matchup against Tennessee that went down to the wire, the Tigers took the lead in the fleeting moments of the game after a Miles Kelly 3-point shot put them ahead en route to a 53-51 victory over the Volunteers.
LSU is currently 12-7 on the season, including a 1-5 conference record, with its singular conference victory over No. 15 Arkansas at home earlier this season.
The LSU Tigers return home after unsuccessful road trips, which included losses to No. 11 Texas A&M and No. 4 Alabama.
In the LSU Tigers matchup with the No. 4 Crimson Tide, LSU managed to keep within striking distance of the Tide and entered halftime tied 40 a piece. However, LSU failed to complete the upset and lost 80-73.
Last season, Auburn welcomed LSU into Neville Arena. Both teams were undefeated after the first week of conference play, but the Auburn Tigers took care of business, defeating LSU 93-78.
Players to watch:
Auburn: Chad Baker-Mazara
The senior guard celebrated his 25th birthday on Monday and played a significant role in the Auburn Tigers' 2023 win over LSU.
In his first season with Auburn, he played 27 minutes off the bench, scored 19 points, grabbed three rebounds and made a career-high five steals against LSU.
Against the Volunteers on Saturday, Baker-Mazara scored seven points from the free throw line and shot 0-for-5 from the field.
With center Johni Broome returning from injury and posting a team-high 16 points against Tennesee, it will be imperative that Auburn receive help from Baker-Mazara on the scoresheet to help relieve the offensive pressure off of Broome if Auburn wants to stay undefeated in conference play.
LSU: Corey Chest
Corey Chest, the true freshman from New Orleans had a career day against the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide. In the losing effort, Chest recorded 12 points and 18 rebounds, with nine rebounds on the offensive end.
The forward has shown he can be a threat on the glass on both ends of the floor and could play a significant factor against an Auburn team that allowed ten offensive rebounds against Tennessee.
With Broome still recovering from his ankle injury, Carter can play a significant role on the glass to help his team potentially upset the No. 1 team in the country.
The Tigers will clash on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. CST, and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
