Starting SEC play with seven straight wins — four of which were victories over ranked opponents — No. 1 Auburn finishes up its most recent road trip at No. 23 Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon in the a third straight ranked matchup between the two programs.
Here's what some of our sports staff has to say about the clash between the Tigers and Rebels, complete with score predictions and analysis.
Patrick Bingham, Sports Editor: Auburn 77-69
"Ole Miss has a really good team and it will be a big atmosphere down in Oxford, MS. At this point its hard for me to pick against Auburn because I think the Tigers have so many different paths to victory compared to almost every opponent they will face this season. "
Logan Fowler, Sports Reporter: Auburn 83-75
"Auburn has played its worst stretch of basketball over the last three games, yet has continued to pull out wins. The Tigers face a quick turnaround having just played in Baton Rouge on Wednesday night, exhausting a lot of energy in the win over LSU. This could be another game that Auburn has to fight until the bitter end to pull out a win. However, I think Auburn is the more talented team and look for the Tigers to record their best 20-game start in program history, along with a 13th Quad I win."
Craig Noyes, Sports Writer: Ole Miss 78-73
"The Tigers have managed some incredible feats so far this season but haven't been playing their best ball this past month. Chris Beard has revived the Rebels program and given fans something to cheer for and kept Ole Miss ranked for a majority of the season. Auburn playing its second road game of the week after a grueling battle against an inferior LSU team is not a recipe for success. I believe that while Auburn will not underestimate the Rebels, they are in danger of a loss because of how they have been playing recently. Malik Dia and Ole Miss get the upset and ultimately set the Tigers straight in the long term."
Charlie Diegnan, Sports Writer: Auburn 86-71
"While Black Pavilion has become one of the hardest places to play in for away teams this season, Auburn seems to find answers to any problems they face on the court. With a healthy Johni Broome back in the starting lineup, Ole Miss is going to have their hands full with Auburn’s ability to stretch the floor.
"I expect Auburn to settle into their game plan early into this conference matchup and maintain a lead throughout the game. While Ole Miss has some impressive wins this season, I think the Tigers versatility will be too much for the Rebels to handle."
