The Student Government Association's Election Council named Hailey Bergenthal the 2025 SGA treasurer on Feb. 7 on the steps of Cater Hall. Cheers erupted from a sea of Bergenthal's supporters standing on the Upper Quad once the council called her name.
Bergenthal, a junior studying law and justice, was the sole candidate for treasurer and campaigned on the platform, "Banking on Bergenthal," which focuses on encouraging students to invest in resources, appreciate wealth and bank on their futures as Auburn alumni.
"Coming in my freshman year this [becoming SGA treasurer] was never the plan, never the expectation and just to be in these shoes now is amazing and I can't wait to fill them to the best of my ability," Bergenthal said moments after making her way up the Cater Hall steps.
During her time at Auburn, Bergenthal held numerous positions, including SGA assistant vice president of finance, SGA assistant director of Hey Day and Creed Day, and Panhellenic director of Greek Sing.
Bergenthal said that during her first weeks in office, Will Goodner, the 2024 SGA treasurer, will prepare her to take over the reins for a smooth transition.
"I think he [Goodner] had a huge focus on financial literacy this year. I think that's always been the role of a treasurer, but it hasn't been super forefront and super present," Bergenthal said. "So that's something that I want to be at the forefront of everything that the SGA treasurer is doing, so that's my goal for my term and something that I'm taking from Will."
Though running unopposed, Bergenthal still appreciates the 7,109 students who voted her for treasurer.
"I'm so excited to serve them [the student body], I appreciate their support and I understand that running in an unopposed campaign, they're trusting me with a lot and I hope that over this week as I was campaigning I was able to show them how I'm going to fill this role and what I'm going to do with it," Bergenthal said.
