The Auburn Tigers (18-1) defeated the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (11-5) 4-3 in their last game of the Jane B. Moore Memorial Sunday afternoon on their home field to close out an undefeated weekend on the plains.

In a competitive, low scoring game with standout defensive performances for both teams. The Tigers collected two diving catches and the Cajuns with added four double plays maintaining a style of clean defenses and strong offensive performances.

The scoring started early Sunday, the Ragin’ Cajuns jump on the board, scoring one in the first inning on a passed ball, but the Tigers answer quickly with a three-hit inning scoring three runs with contributions from KK McCrary, Anna Lea Adams and Amelia Lech.

After a scoreless second inning, Rose Roach gains an RBI single for the Tigers in the third improving the score 4-1.

The Cajuns get their first hit of the game in the fourth from Gabbie Stutes, getting two on base, but they are unable to do anything with it as Roach ends the inning with a diving catch. Looking to continue that momentum in the fifth, the Cajuns have a two-hit inning, scoring their second unearned run, making the score 4-2.

After a quiet couple of innings, not scoring since the third, the Tigers look to extend their lead. Singles from Abbey Smith, Nelia Peralta and a walk for Icess Tresvik will load the bases for Auburn in the bottom of the sixth, but with a double play from Louisiana, no runs are able to come across.

The Cajuns look to keep the game going in the top of the seventh with a single from Cecilia Vasquez, and Emily Smith reaching on an error. Vasquez is able to score on a fielders choice, making another unearned run. However, Louisiana comes up short, unable to push across any more runs.

Bethaney Noble takes the loss on the mound for the Cajuns pitching five innings allowing six hits, with two strikeouts and four walks.

Sophomore, SJ Geurin takes the win for Auburn with a good day on the mound. She is the first pitcher in program history to record at least nine wins through the first 15 games. Geurin is going to be a pitcher to watch this season, allowing only four hits with four strikeouts and no walks. She also leads the team in innings pitched, saves and victories.

Louisiana held a strong defense, but was only able to muster three hits, which did not match up to Auburn’s six hits. However, Auburn struggled offensively today with four erros, three of which resulted in unearned runs scoring, a signal for the Tigers in need to clean up their defensive performance for their next game.

The Tigers will face Troy on Wednesday, March 5 at 6 p.m. CST back at Jane B. Moore field under the lights.
