Johni Broome (#4) celebrates a defensive play versus Georgia in Neville Arena on February 22nd, 2025.

National player of the year candidate Johni Broome was named the SEC’s player of the year by the league’s 16 coaches on Monday afternoon.

Broome became the third-ever player in program history to be honored as SEC Player of the Year along with Auburn legends Charles Barkley in 1984 and Chris Porter in 1999. He also was selected to the All-SEC First Team for the second year in a row.

Broome currently ranks among the top-10 players all-time at Auburn in career points (ninth, 1,582) and career blocks (third, 227).

Johni Broome seals Auburn's victory with a dunk late during the second half of Auburn @ Ole Miss on Feb.

The senior center is second among active D-I players with 77 career double-doubles and fifth with 17 double-doubles this season. His 41 doubles-doubles at Auburn (2022-25) are tied for third-most among all SEC players in the last 25 seasons, trailing only Kentucky's Oscar Tshiebwe with 48 and LSU's Glen Davis with 44.

The 6-foot-10 center put together a 16 point first half performance and finished the night with 34 points against No. 7 Alabama on Saturday – his 13th time scoring 20-or-more in a game – eight rebounds and three assists in 43 minutes.

Broome’s 34 points are the most in his Auburn career and marks just the fourth time the senior has recorded 30-or-points.

Broome is joined by Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr., Alabama’s Mark Sears, Texas A&M’s Wade Taylor IV and Tennessee’s Zakai Zeigler on the All-SEC First Team.
