Auburn softball looks to kick off its alumni weekend this Friday as they begin their weekend-long series against the South Carolina Gamecocks at Jane B. Moore Field. The Tigers are coming off a series sweep to the Tennessee Volunteers this past weekend and hope to have some better conference luck this upcoming weekend.

The Tigers are currently sitting at a record of 27-20 overall with a mere 4-17 conference record. Auburn didn’t see a conference win until their contests against the Kentucky Wildcats, where they went on to win the series. They carried that momentum into the next weekend against the Georgia Bulldogs, gaining another series win and their last two conference wins.

Overall, the Tigers have 55 home runs this season, just nine shy from tying their 2023 total and highest since then of 64. The team is batting a collective average of .262, .023 less than their opponents on average, and an on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) of .813, .013 higher than their opponents.

Pitching wise, the Tigers are led by SJ Geurin and Haley Rainey, who together have a combined earned run average of 3.88. Geurin averages less than a walk and two strikeouts per game. Both players average over .500 in win percentage.

The Gamecocks have had a commanding season, ranking 13th overall with a record of 35-11 with a conference record of 10-8. South Carolina is coming off a win streak of three and a series sweep over Kentucky. The Gamecocks have a combined batting average of .318, ranking them 10th in the SEC and just 33 home runs on the season ranking them last in the conference.

There are advantages and disadvantages for both teams, but if the Tigers want to be successful, they need to match up with the Gamecocks’ offense.

Players to Watch:

AnnaLea Adams

Despite a series loss against Tennessee, the freshman had a dominate weekend offensively against the Volunteers and she continues to have a dominate season, accumulating a .406 batting average in 38 games played and 106 at-bats. Her recent appearances against Georgia and Kentucky have earned her season highs in runs scored and putouts. She also leads the team in OPS (1.156) as well as runs batted in (32).

Icess Tresvik

Tresvik has had a dominant season both offensively and defensively, putting up a batting average of .287 and an OPS of .943. She continues to be a gem in the outfield, recently recording her 11th career outfield assist, making her the seventh player in program history to receive this feat.

Nelia Peralta

Peralta, like Adams and Tresvik, has had an outstanding season, recently reaching 200 career starts as well as starting in her 211th game this past weekend. She currently boasts a .321 batting average, her highest since the 2022-2023 season. The righty has 8 home runs, 28 runs batted in (her highest since her freshman season), and hit one of the team’s seven triples in late March at Texas.

The first contest of the weekend is scheduled for Friday, April 25 at 5 p.m. CST with coverage available on SEC Network+.
