On a night filled with Auburn basketball the women's team showed up and played well right before entering SEC play beating Jackson State 64-48.
Mya Petticord tied her season high of 21 points shooting 6-9 from the field and burying four of her five three pointers. Petticord got the party started early with 16 of her points in the first half.
“The moment I came off the bench,” Petticord said of when she knew she was in the zone. “I felt good during warmups, I was making my shots and that translated to the game. The coaches and my teammates trust my shot and my scoring ability. I needed that before SEC play.”
The Tigers shot the ball well tonight shooting 44% from three while having three players hit multiple threes.
Ja'Mia Harris and Sania Richardson both scored in double figures as well each hitting a pair of threes.
Defensively, Auburn was very good holding Jackson State to shooting 32% from the field and 25% from three. The Tigers forced 22 turnovers and had 17 combined steals and blocks.
Freshmen guard Harissoum Coulibaly did a little bit of everything finishing with nine points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Jackson State outrebounded Auburn 38-29 which is something the Tigers will want to clean up in SEC play.
“We don’t want to give up 17 offensive rebounds but their intensity is going to help us prepare for the two games we have this week,” Vickers said.
Auburn sits at 11-3 and takes a three-game win streak into their SEC opener at Mississippi State on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT at Humphrey Coliseum.
