The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest on Feb. 24 following an investigation into a report of an individual “sexually, physically and mentally abusing his wife,” according to authorities.
Investigations began on Feb. 17, with evidence suggesting the abuse was happening for multiple years. Brian Scott Barrett, 53, of Opelika, was arrested in Lanett, Alabama, and was charged with multiple offenses including:
- One count of rape in the first degree
- One count of sodomy in the first degree
- One count of sexual violence in the first degree
- One count of domestic violence in the third degree
Barnett posted a $120,000 bond and has since been released from the Lee County Detention Center on Feb. 26.
