Thomas Dowd is the latest addition to Auburn’s transfer portal class this offseason, following Creighton big man Owen Freeman, who announced his commitment earlier today.
Dowd is coming from Troy University, where he led the team in minutes, rebounds and blocks, and he was second on the team in points per game.
Dowd averaged 14.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and just over one steal and one block per game last season. He shot 44.1% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc, burying 65 triples on the year.
The 6'8" forward was a First-Team All-Sun Belt selection this past season, helping lead the Trojans to a very successful year. The Trojans won the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and received a berth in the NCAA Tournament as a No. 13 seed, where they played Nebraska in the first round.
Dowd’s best game of the season came in an early November double-overtime win against San Diego State. He finished with a career-high 25 points and five 3-pointers to pair with a career-high 19 rebounds.
Dowd did a little bit of everything on the floor for the Trojans this past season, playing in all 34 games and averaging 36 minutes per game.
The Dothan, Alabama, product was unranked in 2023 coming out of high school but has made a name for himself in college basketball, improving each year. He should help boost Auburn’s frontcourt depth and push to be a starter, as freshman forward Sebastian Williams-Adams recently entered the transfer portal.
Auburn and head coach Steven Pearl have prioritized size and rebounding so far this offseason, as this marks the fourth addition of a player 6'8" or taller. With the transfer portal entry window closing on April 21, fans should have a better idea of what the team will look like in the coming days.
