Auburn head coach Steven Pearl and company have landed their biggest roster win of the offseason thus far.
Standout guard Tahaad Pettiford has announced he will return to the Plains for his junior year, according to a post from Auburn men’s basketball on social media on Saturday afternoon.
Pettiford marks the fourth player to announce his intent to return to Auburn for the 2026-27 campaign, joining Kevin Overton, Simon Walker and Sebastian Williams-Adams.
Pettiford averaged 15.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game as a sophomore this past season on 39.3% shooting from the field. He started in 36 of Auburn’s 38 games, and his 24 points and eight assists against Tulsa in the NIT championship game played a massive role in the Tigers’ title victory in Indianapolis last weekend.

Although he posted more points, rebounds and assists in his second season, his efficiency slightly regressed from his freshman season, during which he came off the bench en route to the 2025 Final Four.
Pettiford went 42.1% from the floor and 36.6% from beyond the arc in his inaugural season, but finished just 39.3% and 29.0% from deep as a sophomore. There were questions whether he would depart for the NBA Draft at the conclusion of last season, but he ultimately decided to return.
Now, despite assumptions and speculation that he would enter the transfer portal to explore other options, the New Jersey native is set to suit up for the third straight year in the orange and blue.
This is a huge victory for Pearl and the Tigers as they embark on a roster rebuild ahead of next season. Pettiford brings valuable experience and will be a solidified starter in Auburn’s backcourt rotation in 2026-27, and he provides great stability for a team that will likely feature a plethora of new additions.
