Just 10 days after Sebastian Williams-Adams publicly expressed his excitement about returning to Auburn for his sophomore season, he entered the transfer portal on Monday afternoon, adding yet another unexpected twist to the offseason for Auburn men's basketball.
Freshman forward Williams-Adams announced his decision on social media, despite previously announcing his return to the media and confidence in his growth with the team.
His departure from Auburn comes on the same day that Auburn added two frontcourt transfers — Owen Freeman and Thomas Dowd — leaving questions about the roster in the air as the coaching staff continues to reshape its lineup.
Williams-Adams quickly created a name for himself at Auburn and served a significant role, appearing in all 38 games of the 2025-26 season with 21 starts. He averaged 7.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in about 27.3 minutes per game, all while shooting 50.5% from the field.
Defensively, he was one of Auburn’s most effective players, posting a freshman program record 47 steals. Additionally, his athleticism allowed him to frequently guard multiple positions on the court. He was nicknamed “Baby Bron” by Auburn assistant coach Ira Bowman for his all-around talent.
His versatility stood out early in the season, as he was able to handle the ball like a guard despite his 6-foot-8 build. Those moments, plus his defensive abilities, made him an intriguing young player for Auburn and showed his potential, despite facing inconsistency during SEC play.
Williams-Adams finished the season with 10 games in double figures, and he played a key role in Auburn’s postseason run, including a 13-point, two-steal performance in the NIT Championship against Tulsa.
His decision to leave Auburn marks another loss for the Tigers’ roster, as he becomes the third contributor to enter the transfer portal this season, alongside Elyjah Freeman and Filip Jović. While his next destination is unknown at the moment, Williams-Adams is expected to attract significant attention in the transfer portal.
