No. 6 Auburn baseball will hit the road this weekend for a critical SEC series against the No. 7 Texas A&M Aggies at Blue Bell Park, as the Tigers look to compete and win in one of their toughest away tests of the entire season.

Auburn enters this series with a 30-13 overall record and a 12-9 conference record, coming off of a 14-4 win against No. 9 SEC competitor Oklahoma. The Tigers have been very dominant at home this season, putting up a 20-8 record. However, Auburn sits at exactly .500 in away matchups, making this an even bigger test as the Tigers look to succeed in a rough environment.

The Aggies are entering this three-game set at 34-8 overall and 14-6 in SEC play, putting together an .810 overall winning percentage and .700 mark in conference games. Texas A&M has played especially strong (23-3) at home, posing a challenge for Auburn as it looks to prove itself away from Plainsman Park.

Despite the road environment and momentum advantage that A&M holds, Auburn has reasons to be optimistic coming into the series. This can be fueled by standout performances by freshman Ethin Bingaman, who has emerged as one of the team’s most electric contributors. He recently received SEC recognition after a breakout stretch at the plate, earning him SEC Co-Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. He set a new record for Auburn, as the first freshman to register a three-homer game in program history. He gives the Tigers another reliable and clutch bat in key situations.

Bingaman wasn’t the only Tiger to earn conference honors, as junior Eric Guevara won SEC Player of the Week this week. In the last 19 games, Guevara batted .435 with six homers and 18 RBI. Guevara went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and three RBI in the rubber match win against Oklahoma. His success has been vital to Auburn’s successes this season, especially his ability to perform efficiently against SEC competition.

Texas A&M is coming in hot to this series. The Aggies have won five straight SEC series, climbing from No. 20 to No. 7 in less than a month’s span. On the mound, A&M has been dominant as well, with a deep and consistent staff led by Aiden Sims, who is 8-0 with a 3.45 ERA and a .197 opponent batting average. That consistency on the mound has been a major factor in the Aggies’ recent surge up the national rankings and will be something Auburn will need to combat in order to take the series.

Auburn will need to utilize their strong starting pitching and consistent hitting to keep up with the Texas A&M Aggies in a hostile environment that is in the Aggies’ favor. If the Tigers can execute in those areas, they’ll give themselves a strong shot at silencing the crowd and be able to take control of the series early.
