The road to Omaha will begin on Auburn’s home turf, as the Tigers — the No. 4 national seed — prepare to host Milwaukee, NC State and UCF at the 2026 NCAA Auburn Regional at Plainsman Park this weekend.
Auburn enters tournament play after putting together one of the program’s most impressive regular seasons yet, finishing with a 38-19 overall record, while navigating through one of the toughest schedules in all of college baseball.
The Tigers’ earning the No. 4 national seed marked another huge milestone for the program, as Auburn became the only team in the entire country to earn a top-four national seed in both the 2025 and 2026 NCAA Tournaments.
In addition, the No. 4 overall seed ties for the highest overall seeding in program history, joining the 2003 and 2025 teams in this feat.
This regional appearance marks Auburn’s 26th regional berth in program history and its seventh appearance under head coach Butch Thompson in the last nine seasons. Since Thompson took the helm of the program, Auburn has proven itself to be a consistent national contender. Hosting the regional in back-to-back seasons also reflects the Tigers’ rise to the top of college baseball programs.
As the No. 1-ranked team in the regional pool, Auburn will begin its tournament run against No. 4 seed Milwaukee in the teams’ first matchup Friday at noon CDT. The other first-round matchup will be No. 2 seed UCF against No. 3 seed NC State later that evening. With the regional following a double-elimination format, all four teams look to take every game and fight for a spot in the upcoming Super regional round.
For Auburn, the opening game against Milwaukee presents an opportunity to set the tone for the tournament early on. The Panthers enter the tournament as Horizon League champions and the lowest seed in the regional, looking to pull off an early upset.
The Tigers’ path through the weekend will only become more difficult from there. UCF enters the regional with an explosive offense and a 31-21 record, showing its ability to put pressure on opposing pitching staffs. NC State, on the other hand, brings a 32-22 record out of the tough ACC, along with valuable postseason experience, proving it can compete at a high level against top competition.
However, Auburn’s success in regional play showcases the potential for the Tigers to make it to the Super Regional and even further. Auburn is 54-35 overall in regional play, including 14-4 under Thompson’s leadership. For Auburn to continue that success this weekend, the Tigers will need to rely on the balanced pitching and hitting approach that carried them through SEC play.
Auburn will also benefit heavily from the atmosphere at Plainsman Park, which has become one of the toughest places to play in college baseball. With Auburn hosting for its second consecutive year, a packed postseason crowd is expected to bring lots of energy and momentum for the Tigers throughout the weekend.
The regional is set to begin Friday and run through Monday, if necessary, at Plainsman Park, where Auburn will look to begin its run on the right foot. With a talented selection of teams, the Tigers will need to handle their business one game at a time as they look to compete in next weekend’s Super regional.
