Two Opelika business owners are facing felony charges after authorities discovered illegal hemp flowers during a search of multiple vape and CBD businesses on July 1.
Special agents with the Alabama Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) first reached out to the Opelika Police Department (OPD) with complaints regarding the illegal sale or possession of hemp products.
With the assistance of the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) Narcotics, the ABC Board and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), a search warrant was obtained for three separate locations:
• Top Shelf Alternatives, located at 510 Geneva St.
• Mr. Smoke, located at 2352 Pepperell Parkway.
• 101 Smoke Shops, located at 1467 Fox Run Parkway, 2808 Pepperell Parkway and 3051 Frederick Road.
Following the search, Bradley Haddon, 40, and Kayla Haddon, 39, were arrested on July 1 after illegal hemp flowers were discovered by agents at Top Shelf Alternatives. Inspections at the other locations resulted in minor infractions.

Bradley Haddon has since been charged with three counts of the sale or possession of unlawful hemp products. Kayla Haddon has been charged with four counts of the sale or possession of unlawful hemp products.
Sale of possession of unlawful hemp products is considered a Class C felony, facing one to 10 years in prison, with fines up to $15,000.

According to the OPD, the case remains under investigation, with additional charges pending. The OPD asks anyone with information related to the case to contact the OPD Detective Division at 334-705-5220, or the Secret Witness Hotline at 334-745-8665.
